GAA World Games
The GAA World Games bring together the best teams from around the world. In 2026, France reached the top of the world.
Waterford 2026
A first for continental Europe
From 13 to 17 July 2026, Waterford (Ireland) hosted the GAA World Games. On 17 July, the French ladies Gaelic football team won the final 23-7 against San Francisco, becoming the first European team, men’s or women’s, to be crowned world champions.
Three years earlier, in Derry, the team had been beaten in the semi-final by Canada after an unbeaten run. This win is the reward for years of collective effort from an entirely amateur squad.

France at the World Games
Before 2026, French teams had already represented the country in the competition: in 2019, clubs from the south-east came together as the Occitanie team, and the South-West league was also represented in recent editions.
