Competitions

European championships

Every year, French clubs take on the best teams in continental Europe.

Two types of competition

15-a-side European Championship

Each year, one French representative, qualified through a tournament between French teams, takes part.

Pan Euros (11-a-side)

Contested by many French teams, men’s and women’s, placed in divisions according to their results in the French championships.

Clubs that win

Our clubs’ performances deserve a special mention: Paris have won the title four times (a record) in the men’s competition and once in the women’s, and many other clubs have already won titles in the lower grades: Rennes, Liffré, Clermont, Lorient, Toulouse and Azur in the men’s; Rennes and Nantes in the women’s.

Until 2005, the Euroleague was the only competition and brought together all the clubs of continental Europe over seven or eight tournaments. In 2006, preliminary stages were introduced, which led to the emergence of a French championship, also including the Channel Islands. The Euroleague now pits the best teams in Europe against each other in three rounds in the autumn, in three different countries.
