World champions 2026

On 17 July 2026 in Waterford, Ireland, the French ladies Gaelic football team won the world title at the GAA World Games, beating San Francisco 23–7 in the final.

An entirely amateur squad, made up of players from clubs across France, they are the first European team, men’s or women’s, ever to win the title.

Our sports

A family of Gaelic sports

Born in Ireland and run by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and the Camogie Association, Gaelic sports are now played all over France.

Men’s and ladies Gaelic football

The GAA’s flagship sport: a fast, spectacular game somewhere between football, rugby and basketball, played by women and men.

Hurling & camogie

Stick and ball at high speed, with camogie as its women’s version.

Gaelic handball

A wall sport played with the bare hand, in singles or doubles, similar to Basque pelota.

Rounders

A bat-and-ball game between two teams, a cousin of baseball. Not yet established in France: be the first to start it!
